The Art of Racing in the Rain

I started this yesterday afternoon and I was hooked from the first chapter. For those of you who haven't started this yet the book is told from the dog's perspective. In the 1st chapter he is talking about how he is getting old and not feeling all that great and it is just time for the owner to let him go. I got all misty eyed because we have a 10 year old lab who has a tumor that we have decided not to operate on and when she starts getting uncomfortable it will be time to let her go. There are some many things in this book that remind me of her. This book also seems like a fast read, I have already made it to the half way point. I would love to hear what you guys think.

  1. I'm almost done and I think it's really good. I love the zebra part!! I can't wait to find out how it ends, I'll probably finish it tonight. I think it may be a tear jerker :-)

And the getting old part reminds me of my childhood dog who my parents had to put down 3 yrs ago. I'll be she had some great insights on how we all operated...wish I could have read her mind!

  2. I finished this today and I LOVED THIS BOOK!!! I just adored Enzo and couldn't stand the evil twins. I could feel myself really hating "The Twins" and that is rare for me in a book. Garth Steain has two other books out and they both look pretty good so I will definitely be adding those to my need to read list.

  3. I finished today too!!! I love that we were all three reading it together. ;) Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. Ha! Okay, I loved it sooooo very much. I'm like you, Tempie, I very much intend to read everything this man has written as well as what he writes in the future. I am so glad you recommended this book. I feel sure if you hadn't, I never would have read it. I too often judge a book by it's cover and this cover didn't really grab me, so I probably wouldn't have been inclined to pick it up. I loved the story. I LOVED Enzo so much!! I truly felt such a kinship with the whole story. And I, too, DESPISED those twins!!!! I wanted to yank them out of the pages and just strangle them!!! It thrilled me to no end when Enzo "shat" on their carpet after eating that pepper! ha! Loved it! And Denny was such an admirable character. I kept thinking of all the mean, horrible things I would want to say and do to those twins and he never stooped to my level. I'm so glad that things turned out so well for him in the end, I would've been very disappointed had it ended any other way. OH!!!! And I got goosebumps when the little boy was ENZO!!!! Ahhh.... loved this one, really, really LOVED IT.

  4. The part where Denny was "letting go" of Enzo brought tears to my eyes. And the ending was great! Loved this one too.

I just picked up this book "April and Oliver" by Tess Challahan. FANTASTIC so far. I'm only a 100 pages in to it and CAN. NOT. PUT. IT. DOWN. I think you'd love it. Check it out on B and N or Amazon. I'll write a review later. But if you want something to read now, here's a suggestion. It's really well written.
