Cause I'm a smidge worried that I may not be done with Her Fearful Symmetry by then!!!
Yikes!
Is anyone else worried about not being done with what they're currently reading?
All month long, I was reading a new book approximately every three days, but this week has gotten me all messed up!
I've had photography work to get done, lunch dates, a Valentine's shoot, and then this winter storm... and so today my kids wanted to play, then I had to clean the mess, then my mom wanted to watch a movie.. My Sister's Keeper... that's another story all together!
Was anyone else mildly disappointed in the way they interpretted this book into movie? First, though, I need to say that I actually was VERY touched by the movie, I cried several times, I really did love it. If I had never read the book, I would've thought the movie magic. However, I did read the book and I loved the book, so when they completely changed the whole end of the movie, I was a little disturbed! I'm not going to be a complete spoiler in case one of you out there either haven't read the book and want to or haven't seen the movie and want to, but if you share my sentiments, I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Now, back to Alice... is everyone going to be ready to start it Monday? If so, I'm going to have 350 pages to read between now and then. You would've thought I would've started a short book, but nooooooooooooooooooo... I have to be difficult! ;)

Honestly, I hated the way the book (My Sister's Keeper) ended. I thought it was way too convenient. I'm not sure I loved the movie ending either, but I was okay with them changing it.
ReplyDeleteI too am trying to finish a book before monday. I'm not loving it, so I'm hoping I can make it because I REALLY want to start still alice.
ReplyDeleteAs for My Sister's Keeper...I tried reading the book a long time ago and never ended up finishing it. A few months ago I watched the movie and SOBBED like a baby. I thought it was pretty good. Afterwards, I was talking to my friend who had both read it and watched it and she mentioned how shocked she was at the ending. Knowing I would never read the book again and confused, I asked her. When she told me how they switched it I couldn't believe they would change it that much! I liked how the movie ended but don't think I would have liked the book ending very much. I wonder how the author felt about the different ending?
When I read the book, I was SO shocked by the ending, but I guess I just accepted it, because last night when I watched the movie, I just couldn't believe they changed the ending that much! I think the movie was a better ending than the book, it just disturbed me that they changed the writer's vision THAT much. I mean, that's a HUGE change!!! Anyway, I would love to know what Jodi Picoult had to say about that! Ha!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm hoping I will be done with my book by tonight. I'm working on it! ;)
What are you reading right now, Erica?
I have also read My Sister's Keeper and seen the movie. Before I saw the movie I heard they had switched the ending. The movie was done by the same guy who did A Walk to Remember and if you remember the ending in the movie was different than the one in the book. Anyway, back to the topic at hand. :) I actually liked the ending of the book (not in a morbid way). The thing I liked about it was it definitely wasn't expected.
ReplyDeleteAs for starting the new book, I also have a book I am trying to finish up. I have a little more than 200 pages so I don't think it's going to happen today. The good news (I guess you could call it that) is my husband is going out of town tomorrow for the rest of the week so I should definitely get a lot of reading done. :)
I'm reading "The Other" by David Gutterson. It's ok, but not my favorite. Have you ever read of "Snow Falling on Cedars"? I read that one in high school when I worked at a book store and it's one of my all time favorites so whenever he comes out with a book (which he only has 4 or 5) I read them hoping it's as great. So far, none really are, but they're decent reads. How are you liking "Her Fearful Symmetry"???? I think the ending makes that book :)
ReplyDeleteI think I did read "Snow Falling on Cedars", sounds very familiar.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm really liking "Her Fearful Symmetry". This author is so unique in her imagination and writing style, I really enjoy her books! I can't wait to see how it turns out! :)
Why don't we plan to start "Still Alice" on Tuesday, if that's okay with everyone?
The book is sitting on the piano... just waiting to be read. It's looking at me.......
ReplyDeleteGood thing tomorrow is the 1st. :)
