I'm sorry if I'm irritating anyone with these daily posts, but I can't help it! :) I love that we're all reading the same story and the further along in it I get, the more excited I get! Ha! :)
I'm around pg. 300 now... where are you guys? I want to make sure I don't comment about something that someone else may not have read yet! :)

342 and I just found out about that pie!!! Oh.My.GOSH! I love it! Funny funny funny!
ReplyDeleteOk, negative of the Kindle: no page numbers!!! I'm about 40% through the book :) That sounds so silly. Stuart just came to apologize to Skeeter about the first date.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to find out about the pie!
And, you girlies are speedy!
I fell asleep last night, and didn't get to read like I wanted to.... bummer. I'm only around pg 80ish. Where Skeeter just got her job. Tonight I'm just going to sit and read... I'm hooked!
ReplyDeleteThe TERRIBLE AWFUL thing Minny did is so much worse than I imagined it to be! Ha! I love it though, because I CAN.NOT. stand that HILLY!!!
ReplyDeleteErica~if it doesn't have page numbers, how on earth do you know where you're at???? That would drive me a little nutty!
And I'm already so excited about what February's pick is going to be! This has been so much fun reading the same thing together. You girls start thinking about what you want to recommend. I'll let you guys do the recommending since I picked out this months! :)
Okay, I'm done, and it's so odd... I feel such a sense of peace after reading that. Like I had something to do with all that that happened almost 20 yrs before I was born. Ha! This is definitely on my list of "Best Books EVER"!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm done! Can't wait to get to talk about it.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm done now.
ReplyDeleteLadies- I just have to say... I get so emotionally involved with the characters and the story... I get absorbed. My dishes haven't been washed in 2 days, my kids have been running around with uncombed hair and in their PJ's from the day before..... and nothing gets done. My stomach gets all up in knots by me worrying about these fictional characters and their fate.. my muscles are tense waiting for the other foot to drop....
I have to say, after sitting on my bum reading for the past two days has been physically exhausting!
If we pick such good books like this every month, I don't know how my poor body will fare. (or how clean my kids/house will ever get again.....)
I wish these characters each had a blog, so I could check up on them daily... :) I'm going to have a hard time saying good bye to them.
Ok, so I finally finished this morning. Loved it! Great pick, Candace. Now I don't know what to do with my time...
ReplyDeleteOh, and Candance, about the page numbers...the kindle saves your spot so when you turn it off or go to a different menu, it goes right back to where you left off. You can also bookmark places in the book and write notes or highlight. The only time it's annoying is when trying to compare to the book version :) It does, however, mark chapters and there is a bar along the bottom of the screen that tells you how far you are in the book. The bar is also marked with marks indicating new chapters.
Okay, thanks for explaining that, Erica. I was wondering how you knew where you were and how close you were to finishing if there were no page numbers. Have you seen the one called The NOOK by Barnes and Noble? I'm not sure of all the differences, because I'm not familiar with either one, I just saw it advertised on the B&N website and then they had fliers on the counter at B&N when I was there the other day. Didn't know if maybe you knew more about their similarities and differences?
ReplyDeleteCandace I'm not sure how The Nook works but I know the big difference between the Kindle and other e-readers that are out right now is you can download books on the Kindle wirelessly. With other e-readers you have to hook it up to your computer. I'm reading my first book on my Kindle (I picked New Moon to the 1st one). I was worried I would missing actually holding a book but with the cover it truely fills like you are. It's also nicer for me because I can sit the book down quickly to keep a kid from breaking their neck (or something else crazy) and not worry about losing by spot. I also don't have to worry about my daughter stealing my bookmark, which she would do on occasion. So far I am very happen with my decision to get one.
ReplyDeleteThat's a definite plus, Tempie... downloading wirelessly. I was driving to the hospital to see my grandma earlier and another question about the kindle popped into my head... does it have a lit up screen... you know... so you can read it in the dark? Just curious, because I use the crap outta my booklight! Emma sleeps with me a lot and she won't let me keep my bedside light on. LOL So I was wondering if it had that feature or if you still need a booklight for reading in dark situations?
ReplyDeleteNo, the screen doesn't light up, it would be nice if it does. I know they sell clip on reading lights for the Kindle for about $20 (my friend has one) but I don't know if they are any different than other booklights....I don't even have a regular booklight, I have to use a mini flashlight when I want to read at night. :)
ReplyDeleteI couldn't believe it didn't have a back light when I got it...I wonder why???? I did buy a light for it that slides into the cover. It works really well and only takes 1 AAA battery. I use it all the time and it hasn't burned out yet :) I got it on amazon along with the cover. I think the maker is MEdge.
