After Still Alice?

I love "Still Alice" sooooo much that I can't put it down. I know I'm going to finish it today, though, because I'm going to be away from my kids most of the day, which means.... reading tiiiiiiiiiiiiimmmmmmmmmmmmmeeeeeeeeeee!!! ;)
It's too compelling and it's literally ripping my heart out. I cried in the most bizarre place last night, but I'm not going to say where, because I know not everyone is in the same spot.

Is anyone up for another group read this month? I love reading together! It's awesome to me to be reading, knowing you guys are reading the same words I'm reading.

If anyone else would like to do a group read, let me know! :)

  1. Yes, yes, yes! Count me in! Enjoy your spa day, lucky girl! I'll be thinking of you while I'm snowed in with my two rugrats, pulling my hair out!!!!

  2. Erica, we are snowed in here also.....I'm so tired of snow.

Anyway, I would definitely be interested in doing another group read.

  3. I haven't even started Still Alice. Things are pretty hectic here, with Dave getting ready for deployment. I promise I will get started soon so that you girls can start talking about it! Sorry!

  4. You haven't started it? WEll, you'll love it. I can't wait til we can discuss it somewhat, because I have so much to say! I absolutely loved it!

  5. I started yesterday and couldn't put it down. Up WAY too late last night and got to pg 285. What a heart-wrenching story! Can't wait to finish is today (I hope!)

Totally up for another group read, but I think I missed the vote! Doesn't matter, I trust you guys! :)

  6. I would love to be able to read another book this month, but I have so much that I need to do, I can only commit to reading Still Alice.
Speaking of which.... gotta go do me some readin'. :)

  7. Alynn, you haven't missed voting! I was giving everyone til 2pm est today to post what they'd like to suggest and then we'll start voting after that!

And Breezi... no pressure, I know you're busy getting ready for and baking two baby boys! ;)

  8. I just finished the book. I have to say... I just didn't like Alice's husband either. He bothered me.

It was a good book (well written), very interesting and insightful, however, I am a person who likes 'happy, fluffy ending' books. I like to read to escape reality... when I read things that don't let me escape from reality I get a little bummed. (Just like my movies.... I get depressed for weeks after watching movies like 'A Perfect Storm', 'Poseidon', 'Cast Away', and the likes.)

I thought this book would be hard to digest, as there is no cure for Alzheimer's.... and I was right.

  9. "Still Alice" was such a sad, sad book. In the beginning I just didn't like Alice's attitude towards her youngest daughter, I can't imagine giving my child that kind of harshness about her career choice unless her career choice was being a stripper. Then she'd get that kind of treatment. I liked Alice's husband and the relationship they shared until he became aware of her diagnosis. I think he totally dropped the ball in his treatment of her. I hate that he completely detached hiself from the situation.

Alzheimer's has to be the scariest thing to happen to anyone it afflicts. I can't imagine forgetting my children and being totally unaware, as she was, a good part of the time.

We LOVE comments!!
