Hi I'm Tempie

I also went to the same high school as Candace, just graduated a few years before her. This group sounds like a great idea. I am currently in another book club that meets once a month but this sounds so much better because we can actually talk about the book as we are reading it instead of at the end of the month, which by then I have forgotten some things.

I'm a SAHM to two wonderful children, a 6 year old and a 2 year old. My husband is in the Marine Corp and we are currently in Maryland about 15 mins. south of Baltimore. I have loved reading all my life. It started with Beverly Cleary's Ramona Quiby, moved to Anne of Green Gables and by middle school/high school I was reading Stephen King. I now read just about anything. I have a book on me at all times, my OB/Gyn even joked with me after I had my daughter about how many books I had read while waiting in the doctor's office.

I am looking forward to getting to know you ladies and discussing great books.

P.S. I read The Help this past fall and it's a great book. I fell in love with the characters and was sad when the book ended.

P.S.S. Oh, I am also a new Kindle owner. I haven't actually got to read a book on it yet because I had some other books I had to read first but I am looking forward to it.

  1. I'm so glad you're here, Tempie!! This group of girls is just getting better and better by the day! :) We are going to have such a great time. I can't wait until I can actually discuss what I'm reading on here with others who are reading the very same thing. I've literally dreamed of being able to do this since Oprah started her book club in the 90s. Oh, and then, I read all her book club books... was ob-sessed with them. :)

And Tempie, my book obsession also started with Beverly Cleary books.. along with Sweet Valley Twins... and The Babysiter's club. Ahh. those were the good old days. My grandma would take me to the bookstore and let me get a whole stack of them at a time and I would leave thinking I had just won the lottery. It was fabulous. And now I'm just the same, I can't go to Barnes and Noble without getting at least two books. It's intoxicating to me!

And how do you feel about the Kindle? Do you miss having actual books?

  2. Oh, I also loved the Sweet Valley Twins.

I'm liking the Kindle so far. I had to get it more out of a necessity though. I average about 2-3 books a month and with my husband being in the military we move at least every 3 years. My book collection was getting a little out of control. Then you factor in my son also has a book habit so he has a ton of books. I'm sure the packers always grumbled with they saw our books cases. :) Also, with the case that you can get for the Kindle, it almost feels like I'm holding a real book.

  3. Oh my goodness! I loved the Sweet Valley Twins! I had forgotten all about that series, wow, I miss that wholesome reading.

Anyway, thanks Tempie for the advice for "Love in the Time of Cholera," I was gonna read it before I watched the movie. But I decided to watch the movie and you are right, that movie was a bit creepy.

Also, do you happen to live at Ft Meade? My husband is also a Marine and we were stationed there for about four years. I was our first duty station, so it holds a special place in our hearts. Two of our children were born at Bethesda.

  4. We are at Fort Meade. It's been a big adjustment being one of the few Marine families on an Army post. :) My husband actually works in Baltimore though. He is working at the Reservist station there. We have about a year and a half left here and then it's on to somewhere else. How long ago were you here? I'm sure it has changed a lot. They have pretty much tore down/renovated all the old houses. They have also gotten rid of part of the golf course to build this huge office building.

  5. We left in 05, so it's been awhile. I've visited since then so I saw that they tore up the golf course. It makes me sad, that used to be the only good place to run without being on the roads. When we were there we lived in some ghetto houses, they're still there but they were just remodeled on the inside. We lived on Pierce Ct, do you know where that is?

I'm hoping to head up there someday this year since I still have good friends that live there. If you get transferred to Camp Pendleton you should look me up, we can go to Barnes and Noble together :-)

  6. I had to look Pierce Ct. up. I'm not that familiar with that section of the post. We live at the very end of Rockenback of off 92nd Cav Ave. I'm hoping to our next move keeps us on the east coast. That is where my husband has done all his time so far. We have been to Camp Lejeune twice, Parris Island, Quantico and now here.
